Back to the Future meets Old School meets Peggy Sue Got Married. The trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine at least looks hehehe-larious! You could say the concept of four buds traveling back to their prime in a hot tub is a little far fetched, but that’s the kind of writing that fosters the most gut-busting comedies. Take Hot Fuzz for example, could never happen, but that utter craziness adds to the awesome.
Craig Robinson (a hoot in Zack and Miri) plays Nick, whipped by his wife, John Cusack plays Adam, dumped and back on the market, Rob Corddry plays Lou, party animal without a party and Clark Duke plays Jacob, Geek extraordinaire. The four men wake up as boys the day after an insanely drunken hot tub party, in the year 1986, boom. This is their time to shine, to make choices that will change their future. Most of us couldn’t imagine going back to a time without iPhones and instant messaging. The tech jokes are probably what’s going to make you laugh most in this movie (and really, it’s the 80s, we love to make fun of the 80s). Look out for my fave joke 2:20 into the trailer.
We’ve seen similar plots before, but if you don’t expect a comedy masterpiece, you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised by Hot Tub Time Machine. If Chevy Chase makes an appearance, it can’t be that bad right? Right?
