It takes a lot to get me to the theater to watch a movie lately unless I have tickets to a free screening. I am truly spoiled by the comfort and convenience of my living room and home theater. No one’s kicking my seat, talking about who they saw at Starbucks, sending text messages to their pals or answering their cell phone. So generally I wait for a film to come out on DVD. Coraline might just be the film to get me back into a local movie house. It looks, in a word, fantastic.
Here’s a YouTube version of the trailer:
That gives you a taste, but if you really want to be blown away, as I was, check out the HD trailer options at Yahoo! as YouTube doesn’t do it justice.

Coraline is “The story of a young girl (Dakota Fanning) who unlocks a mysterious door in her new home in Ashland, Oregon, and enters into an adventure in a parallel reality. On the surface, this other world eerily mimics her own life—though much more fantastical. In it, Coraline encounters such off-kilter inhabitants as the morbidly funny Miss Forcible (Jennifer Saunders) and Miss Spink (Dawn French), and a counterfeit mother—who attempts to keep her. Ultimately, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home.” [wikipedia]
Based on a novella of the same name by Neil Gaiman, co-directed by Henry Selick of The Nightmare Before Christmas and Mike Cachuela of Ratatouille will be opening wide in February of 2009 and playing in RealD 3D in select theaters.
After the jump are some more great screen grabs I took from the HD version of the trailer.
