Aloha Hula…

There are quite a few sad faces around MovieSet HQ today, after the passing on the weekend of Senior Office Dog Hula.
Beloved family pet of MovieSet’s founder and CEO, Hula was a sweet, loving pooch with a tail that wagged reassuringly even when diabetes, cataracts and old age left her struggling on staircases and bumping into doors. Her daily Houdini impression was marked by such awesome speed and determination, upon discovering her trotting down the beach several blocks away (always having befriended a family of picnickers), she was more often congratulated for her Herculean efforts than she was chided for them.
The last few weeks signaled a distinct change in the dog’s health, and even as the loving snuggles given to her grew more frequent, it was clear the old girl’s life force was starting to slip away. Every Friday for the last month has ended with a tacit understanding that she might not be there on Monday, depending on how she weathered the growing stresses on an increasingly fatigued little body.
So this past Friday afternoon, after a few nostalgic escapes and a number of assists up and down the stairs, I held her on my lap, stroked her fawn-colored fur and told her in a soft voice what a good dog she was and how much everyone loved her. Something told me it was going to be the last time… and sure enough, at this morning’s staff meeting, Colleen told us that she’d had to make the heartbreaking decision on Sunday night, and had lovingly and humanely asked the vet to put Hula to sleep one last time. As a full-fledged member of the MovieSet family, we all feel her loss and miss her already.
Buoyed by her dear little spirit, we continue on our path, but sadly, with one less four-footed friend along for the journey.
