Postal poster pwnage

PostalMovie1.jpgHow do the filmmakers and movie studios decide on the movie poster that you see in the lobby of your favorite theater? The answer is complicated and usually involves exhaustive marketing research, endless testing of focus groups, feedback from online forums, finding out what design is the director’s favorite and then dismissing it immediately from consideration, asking the opinion of high priced call girls frequented by politicians and the odd ritual demonic sacrifice. In short, it’s business as usual for Hollywood.

“Postal” is no different than any other massive Hollywood movie with a bloated budget and A-level stars (except for the size of its budget and the lack of A-list [or B-list…or C-list…] stars) because it too has created a series of possible poster designs. One poster might go with a serious, sober note while the next design favors a wacky, humorous bent even though the movie is about a terminal disease. We asked Uwe Boll if he would be willing to share with the world what sort of ideas were being kicked around for the “Postal” movie poster and he came through in a big way, giving us access to 21 various “Postal” poster designs. We’ve placed all of the poster designs on the “Postal” starting on page three of the “Postal” galleries pages and going forward from there. Some are wacky. Some are offensive. Some show female flesh quite gratuitously. One involves putting the barrel of a pistol into the netherregions of a cat. How sick are the bastards that made this movie? Well, until you’ve seen the Verne Troyer monkey-love scene, you won’t know just how far the line gets redrawn with “Postal”. Actually, scratch that: seeing the Dave Foley waking up scene has been forever burned into my brain. And that’s one thing “Postal” has going for it that those “Indiana Jones” mega-budgeted summer blockbusters don’t have: the courage to show us full-frontal Dave Foley. Does Steven Spielberg have the balls to show the audience Harrison Ford’s junk? Hell no…but Uwe Boll DOES.

Tell us which poster design is your favorite and why so in the space below, and if you’re a member of a cat protection society, just what kind of street justice you want to inflict upon Uwe Boll. Click on any one of the designs below to see them in their full-size glory.

Here kitty kitty…

The t-shirts of Postal

Uwe Boll shared with MovieSet a bunch of confidential marketing designs for “Postal”. Naturally we asked him if it would be cool to share it with the world and the B-man gave us the A-OK.

Here’s a look at some proposed t-shirt designs for “Postal” where the marketing campaign is taking advantage of the film’s over-the-top parodies. Hey, here’s a thought: tell us which one you like the best and would wear walking around. We’ll tell Uwe the results.

For my buck, the last one is the one for me.

Go to Jail

jail_set_visit.jpgSince we’re hanging tiiiight with Dr. Uwe Boll and doing a mega-cool contest to celebrate the May 23 release of “Postal”, the guy invited MovieSet to come down to the set of his latest project. Naturally we took him up on the offer and our intrepid staff ventured into the make believe cells of Uwe’s next film, an untitled project that he is currently referring to as “Jail”.

The film stars Edward Furlong (”Terminator 2: Judgment Day”) and is based on a true account of a young man imprisoned in a German penitentiary and then tortured by the inmates. Uwe told us that he is striving to make it as hard as he can and to pull no punches; he wants to show the audience how brutal the experience was for the man. In-between setting up shots for “Jail” we got Uwe to sit down and discuss in his own words what the movie will be like. We also snagged some exclusive behind-the-scenes video showing the horrific set where the violence takes place. You can watch all of MovieSet’s exclusive videos about Boll’s next work on our new “Jail” page.

Stay tuned for more exclusive MovieSet interviews with the filmmakers and our trips to the sets of upcoming movies.

Free NYC screening of Postal and Uwe talks Indy

uwe_boll_iview_postalUwe Boll dropped by the MovieSet offices last week to talk about his latest film and why he’s issued a challenge to the world’s greatest adventurer, Indiana Jones. Boll’s “Postal” is primed to open on Friday, May 23 — one day after “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, the fourth movie in the Indiana Jones series, arrives on cinema screens. Every other Hollywood studio is staying far away from the opening weekend of “Indy 4″, so why is Boll adamant in putting his movie up against Indy? Is he crazy like a fox or just crazy? You can learn the reasons for yourself by watching our exclusive interview with Uwe Boll now posted on MovieSet’s “Postal” page.

Uwe also told us how you can catch a FREE advance screening of “Postal” if you live in New York City or Chicago. The NYC screening will happen on April 1 @ 8:00 PM at the Tribeca Film Center, and if you would like to get the opportunity to come see the movie that has the internet buzzing all you need to do is join the “Postal” Facebook Fan Page and leave a related wall post before March 28. We’re giving away 5 pairs of tickets and if you’re one of the lucky winners we’ll contact you so you can come claim your prize! Users going Postal

It has been interesting watching the responses come in to MovieSet’s “What’s In the Bag” contest for “Postal” and it’s only been one day. Some have taken a realistic approach to the question and put some thought into what sort of item should be in a bag worn by an adventurer archaeologist. Some others have embraced the zaniness of “Postal”’s adult comedy and come up with some rather, shall I say, colorful and novel ideas for what’s lurking in there. Since all contest entrants are automatically included in the draw I thought that in the days to come I would share some of the wackier answers that we’ve received, like:

– A Nintendo Wii (a good guess since those bloody things are next-to-impossible to find)

– a copy of “Archaeology For Dummies”

– Harrison Ford’s Viagra (zing!)

– “An Uwe Boll action figure, I’d buy it.”

– “Leather-wrapped Incan vibrators.” Hey, someone’s been looking in my desk.

– Nazi Gold.

– Mini-Indiana’s Little Black Book.

– Uwe Boll’s career, Uwe Boll’s talent and/or Uwe Boll’s testicles, take your pick. The thing of it is, the Boll-man would get a kick out of the swipes at him, too (watch”Postal” for Boll’s cameo as a German theme park operator and you’ll see what I mean.)

– A copy of “Postal 2: Share the Pain”.

– Ammo

– A first aid pack

– the head of Indiana Jones

– “Whatever it is, it’s better than Indiana Jones.”

– “DVDs of all of Uwe Boll’s previous excellent films, and hopefully a theatrical poster for this next one!”

– And so far my personal, not safe for work (NSFW) entry: “The heart of Uwe Boll and the penis of Verne Troyer. Uwe Boll doesn’t need his heart and Verne Troyer has a giant cock.” You can’t say that I didn’t warn you.

Enter MovieSet’s “Postal” contest and get in on your chance to win a one-of-a-kind item that you will love forever, hand down generation to generation or sell for millions of dollars on eBay. The choice will be yours.

MovieSet launches an exclusive “Postal” contest!

If you haven’t already hit MovieSet’s listing for Uwe Boll’s black humor satire “Postal” then you need to report there, stat! We have just launched our latest contest giving away an exclusive, one of a kind movie item that will be featured in “Postal”. All you have to do is watch the latest video posted on the “Postal” page (my, that was a lot of P’s), see Verne Troyer dressed up as Mini-Indy and then enter our contest by taking a guess as to what’s in Mini-Indy’s bag. That’s all that you need to do! The wackier the entry, the better your chances could be. Let your mind go nuts and get in the spirit of “Postal”’s sense of skewed humor and you will be on the right track.

We’re really excited about this latest MovieSet content and believe that it’s our best one yet. I know what’s in the bag, I’ve seen it and held it and believe me, if you’re a fan of movies you will want this. No one else in the world has one quite like it!

Verne Troyer talks about going Postal

Best known for his role as Mini-Me in the last two “Austin Powers” films, Verne Troyer may start getting recognized for his memorable role in Uwe Boll’s “Postal” as both himself and the voice of Krotchy, the twisted child’s doll and eBay collectible. MovieSet caught up with Verne while he was prepping to film a special video that you will be able to see on our site later this week and asked him some questions about his experience making “Postal”. We now have that exclusive video Q&A up on MovieSet’s page for “Postal”"; just hit our “Postal” page and click on the exclusive Verne Troyer interview to see what the main man had to say about being attacked by love-starved monkeys and working with director Uwe Boll. Which was was worse?

MovieSet has also kicked off a Facebook fan page for “Postal” which you can join. Already we have the director and three of the beautiful “Postal” ladies have joined up. Drop on by and become a friend today!

Finally we have added five brand new clips from “Ben X” that you can watch. If you’re interested online videogames, teen drama, the blurring of reality by fantasy or all of the above (and really, who isn’t?), go to MovieSet’s “Ben X” page and click on any one of the five new video clips listed on the right-hand side.

Check back this week for a brand new MovieSet contest involving a certain whip-wielding adventurer and your chance to win an exclusive prize!

Of Purgatory and Assassination

There are two brand new film listings on MovieSet to tell you about, one of which features the exclusive debut of the movie’s trailer. “48 Hours in Purgatory” delves into a person’s inner demons and asking them to confront them in front of a camera. Led by director Brody Hawkins, a team of indie filmmakers select 6 college student with the offer to pay them $10,000 on the condition that they spend 48 hours inside a locked room being interviewed by a stranger. What the filmmakers caught on camera wasn’t what they had originally planned and neither were the events that rippled out into their own lives. You can watch the exclusive trailer for “48 Hours in Purgatory” on MovieSet at www.movieset.com/48-hours.

Our second new listing is for a film titled “Flying Into Love”. Based on the novel by D.M. Thomas, the film tells the story of the assassination of JFK as seen through the eyes of the President’s wife, Jacqueline. Romola Garai (”Atonement”) plays the legendary Jackie while “L.A. Confidential” cast member James Cromwell is Kennedy’s soon-to-be sworn in Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson. MovieSet has the poster for the film, a listing of the cast and crew as well as the official synopsis of the film on our “Flying Into Love” page.

MovieSet lands a Postal exclusive!

Yesterday was a big day for MovieSet! In case you haven’t heard we broke the story that Uwe Boll’s “Postal” will open on May 23, one day after the newest “Indiana Jones” film blasts into theaters. “On the ‘Indiana Jones’ weekend - May 23 - we will go out and destroy ‘Indiana Jones’ in the box office!” said the controversial director. “We all know that Harrison Ford is older then my grandpa and his time is up – as Michael Moore would say!”

This will be the first time that one of Uwe’s movies is being released on the Memorial Day long weekend, which is traditionally the start of the summer movie season. Uwe came into our offices last week and he was pumped about his big plans for having “Postal” go head-to-head with “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”. He shared some of the things that he has planned and we here at MovieSet plan to be right there in being the first to show you what he has in store for you! Just keep your eyes fixed to MovieSet and you will see more exclusives like this for “Postal” as well as other big films that you are looking forward to seeing.

If you haven’t seen the opening three minutes of “Postal”, watch it now on our page for Uwe’s movie. Prepare to be shocked (but in a good way!)

Your look at Married Life on MovieSet

Welcome to March, the month where we finally emerge from our winter hibernation and start to see green things grow. March is also the start of the spring film season and on the first day of spring it will also see the release of “Married Life”, a new drama starring Pierce Brosnan and Rachel McAdams. Set in post-World War II America, the former James Bond leading man plays Rich, a buddy to Chris Cooper’s Harry. The two pals are best of friends until Rich starts to question why Harry is courting a much younger widow named Kay (McAdams, seen here sporting platinum blonde locks). Harry is also married to Pat (Patricia Clarkson) but can’t bring himself to end the relationship due to the scandalous social nature that divorce had in the 1940s. Wondering what Kay sees in a guy like Harry, Rich decides to also court Kay and see if he can woo her away with his charms. Soon secrets start to be revealed and the chess match between Harry and Rich for Kay’s affections grows darker.

The movie was directed and adapted for the screen by Ira Sachs from the novel “”Five Roundabouts to Heaven” by John Bingham. Bingham wrote for the classic “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” TV show from the 1960s, so you can see where the noirish story aspects in “Married Life”comes from. The costumes, set decoration and cinematography are fantastic and do a remarkable job of capturing what life looked like for the average middle-class American back then. Particularly beguiling is McAdams who looks radiant with blonde hair. It’s also a good opportunity to show that she can deliver a solid dramatic performance outside of playing the straight girl in fare like “The Wedding Crashers”.

Sony Pictures Classics is releasing the film on March 21 in select theaters and today on MovieSet we have posted 5 scenes from the film for you to check out. There are also interviews with the films stars including Pierce Brosnan and Rachel McAdams that you can watch too.

Click here to visit MovieSet’s listing for “Married Life” and see what we have that’s new to show for you today.
