New Star Trek trailer boldly goes back to basics

Sunday, November 16, 2008

If you caught a showing of Quantum of Solace this past weekend then you saw Paramount’s latest trailer for its soon-to-be-relaunched Star Trek movie. Take the creator of Alias and Felicity, give him $150 million dollars and carte blanche on reimagining the studio’s space franchise and this is what you get. The jury’s still out for me on whether I’m gonna like or hate this movie; from what I can tell most of the cast looks too young, the bridge of the new Enterprise looks like a place where I can buy an iPod and I’m having a hard time thinking that all of these people came together on their first adventure. But aside from that, game on!

Paramount has different sizes for the trailer on, surprise surprise, Apple’s trailer website.

This trailer is a million kinds of bad.
To start: Jake Lloyd lookalike (and blond young Kirk at that)? Check.
Bra in a TREK trailer? Check.
“Buckle up!” Check and mate.
