Blogging Behind the Scenes to bring you the Latest ScoopsTwilight nets $7 million in midnight showings
Posted by Patrick on Friday, November 21, 2008

…so says this morning’s edition of Variety. There were around 600 midnight showings ofTwilight early this morning/late last night, and if the early figures hold up that’ll mean that the first showing of Twilight easily beat the $2.5 million advance screening box office that Sex in the City drew this past May. Variety is comparing Twilight to SITC, wrongly I think, but that’s their choice.
Want to know what’s the crazy part about Variety’s story? They referenced that Sex in the City drew in $57 million dollars worth of ticket sales in its opening weekend, and therefore if Twilight almost tripled the first showing numbers that SITC had, the vamrom could easily exceed the $65 million dollar high water mark expectations some analysts made. Could we truly be considering a $100 million dollar opening weekend for Twilight?

I’m guessing it’ll do over $100M, but it really all depends on the film. If it’s great, the Fandango-ers will see it again this weekend. If it’s not, they won’t, and people who were interested but not rabid (and who can’t get tickets because of the advanced sell-outs) won’t see it.
But I suck at numbers, so we’ll see.
