Blogging Behind the Scenes to bring you the Latest ScoopsElectric Kool-Aid Acid Test casting talk

Director of Milk, Gus Van Sant, has been chatting with MTV about possible casting for his upcoming adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s hippie classic Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. It appears that he’s having trouble casting the lead:
“Unfortunately, Heath Ledger was a pretty obvious choice, and he’s gone,” Van Sant told MTV News in an exclusive interview. But who else could play zany philosopher-king and “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” author Kesey?
“There’s the opportunity that it could be Jack Black,” says Van Sant, hinting the film might possibly take on a more comedic feel.
At the moment, though, the “Milk” director is awaiting the initial draft of the screenplay, which is being penned by “Milk” scriptwriter Dustin Lance Black.
“He’s cracking the nut,” Van Sant tells us. “I’m not sitting with him every day. I probably should think about doing that, but I haven’t seen the first draft yet. I hope he cracks it. There are many ways to crack it.” [more at source]
I can’t wait to see this regardless of who gets cast. Tom Wolfe’s accounting of Ken Kesey, author of One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, and his Merry Pranksters tripping (in more ways than one) on a bus captures the hippie era like no other piece of literature.

Gus Van Sant directed movies are really good and they are different from other commercial movies. And casting involves the actor best suited for the role. He pickups the right person.

Nothing against Jack Black but please don’t get him for the role of Ken Kesey! I really think the movie should go with no name actors. Big timers on a movie like this could potentially ruin it. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Black and big time actors but just not for a film like this.
