You’ve got to hand it to the Brits, they know how to make great commercials. Channel 4 will be running a number of Kubrick’s films this summer and to help publicize it they’ve cooked up a cool 65-second commercial that recreates the sets of The Shining. Want to see it?
The commercial uses 55 actors, several of whom actually resemble the film’s stars including Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and those creepy twin girls standing in the haunted hallways of the Overlook Hotel. The shot was done in one single take and is amazing to behold as the camera (we’re looking from the perspective of Stanley Kubrick) glides through the sets and captures the workings of the production. I don’t know how the production designer managed to find the exact same freaking carpet that the hotel in the movie had, but there it is.
