It sounds like the original Terminator is a little down on the next Terminator movie. The Los Angeles Times ran an interview with California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger asking him what he thought of early footage from the new Terminator Salvation movie. Click on to see what the Governor thought of the T4 sneak peek.
“They showed me some footage, but I don’t have a feel for the movie,” said Arnie. “I
didn’t see enough. I wasn’t sure who the Terminator was. I don’t know
if there is one or if he’s the star or the hero. These are the things that determine the success and how the strong the movie will be.”
The new Terminator stars Christian Bale as John Connor, the leader of the human survivors fighting for their race’s existence in the burned out rubble after Skynet declared war against its creators. Rising action newcomer Sam Worthington plays the part of Marcus, a former death row convict who seems to have been mysterious transported to the future with no memories of how he got there. Connor is instantly suspiscious about the new guy, setting up an instant conflict between the two men when the machines aren’t shooting at them.
In the interview Schwarzenegger also gave high praise for Wanted, one of this summer’s big blockbusters, and said he digs everything that Will Ferrell does. But when Arnold was asked if he’s down on the prospects of T4 because he’s not in the franchise anymore he was quick to say that’s not true. “No, the same thing happened with bodybuilding. Seven times I won the Mr. Olympia title, a record, no one had done that. Then someone else
[South Carolina native Lee Haney] won it eight times. Do I sit and say,
‘Darn it, my record is gone’ or ‘Darn, I’m not up there on stage.’ No,
because I’ve moved into other phases of my life. I moved on from bodybuilding into entertainment. Then I moved on from entertainment
into a political life. Now this is the most exciting experience of my
life. When this movie comes out, I won’t be sitting there saying, ‘Why
can’t I do that?’ I hope it makes a lot of money and is very successful.”
Word is that a relatively unknown bodybuilder may have been cast as the same model Terminator (the T-800 model 101) that Schwarzenegger played in the first three Terminator movies. The Terminator Salvation production hasn’t confirmed that story yet but they also haven’t denied it either…
