Voltage Pictures has confirmed with MovieSet that George A. Romero’s latest zombie flick is one of director’s biggest — if not the biggest — film to date. International distribution deals are falling nicely into place at the American Film Market this week, but fans of Romero will have to wait until early 2010 to see the zombie flick in theaters. That is, unless they’re lucky enough to secure tickets for its world premier at the Toronto Film Festival in 2009.
Also at the AFM Voltage Pictures is looking for release partners for Seventh Moon, the latest film from Blair Witch Project co-director, Eduardo Sanchez. According to IMDB, since the Blair’s breakout release in 2009, the writer/director hasn’t veered too far from its wooded path (Curse of the Blair Witch (1999) and Book of Shadows (2000). In 2006 Sanchez wrote and directed the original alien creature feature Altered. And now Sanchez is back with Seventh Moon, based on a Chinese myth that the dead are freed to walk among the living during the seventh full moon.
The Amy Smart starrer follows two Americans honeymooning in China during the exotic “Hungry Ghost” festival in honor of the spirits. As night falls, they find themselves abandoned in a remote village and soon realize the legend is all to real. Plunged into an ancient custom they cannot comprehend, they must find a way to survive the night of the “Seventh Moon.”
Seventh Moon has an expected release date for early 2009.
