Sundance in the new year – Indie Films we’re Following from Runaways to Douchebags

Sundance, the largest independent film festival going goes again from Jan 21-31 in Park City, Utah along with the hype, marketing and goodtimes which swirl around. I’ll resist the urge to recount my misadventures on Main St. in the early days for the fest and instead tell you a few films we are following at this year’s fest. Which are you excited to see? Which will be the film which makes a big deal in PC? Let us know in the comments.

* Welcome to the Rileys – On a business trip to New Orleans, a damaged man seeks salvation by caring for a wayward young woman. – In Theaters January 2010. Also with Kristen Stewart as an underage stripper.
* Howl – A drama centered on the obscenity trial Allen Ginsberg (James Franco) faced after the publication of his poem, Howl.
* happythankyoumoreplease – Six New Yorkers juggle love, friendship, and the keenly challenging specter of adulthood.
* The Company Men – One of the first casualties of a corporate downsize is Bobby Walker, a hot-shot sales executive who is living the idyllic life—complete with two kids and a mortgaged picket fence.
* Blue Valentine – Blue Valentine is an intimate, shattering portrait of a disintegrating marriage.
* Hesher – Hesher is the story of a family struggling to deal with loss and the anarchist who helps them do it—in a very unexpected way.
* The Killer Inside Me – Based on the novel by legendary pulp writer Jim Thompson, The Killer Inside Me tells the story of handsome, charming, unassuming small-town deputy sheriff Lou Ford, who has a bunch of problems.
* Jack Goes Boating – Jack Goes Boating is a tale of love, betrayal, and friendship set against the backdrop of working-class New York City life.
* Get Low – Felix is a miserable old hermit who has lived in an isolated cabin for the past 38 years.

* HIGH school – So it’s the end of the school year, and smarmy Principal Gordon (Michael Chiklis) has suddenly instituted a zero-tolerance crusade against his nemesis, the reviled marijuana.
* Sympathy for Delicious – Recently paralyzed DJ “Delicious” Dean battles the mean streets of Los Angeles, struggling to survive in his wheelchair.
* Douchebag – The week Sam Nussbaum is to be married, his fiancée questions why his only brother, Tom, isn’t coming to the wedding.
* 3 Backyards – A trio of brief, yet potentially life-altering, adventures unfold on one seemingly normal autumn day.
* Twelve – Based on the critically acclaimed novel by Nick McDonell, written when he was only 17 years old, Twelve is a chilling chronicle of privileged urban adolescence on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
* The Dry Land – James (Ryan O’Nan) returns from Iraq to face a new battle—reintegrating into his small-town life in Texas.
