The Daydream Nation crew are doing final location scouting, prop show and tell, and cast costume fittings as they get prepped for production ~ and MovieSet is along for the ride.
Over the next 6 weeks, MovieSet will be sharing the inside story about the production of ‘Daydream Nation.’ MovieSet will be on-location from pre-production forward, rolling tape and documenting the shoot of this darkly comedic story of a high school student *involved* with her teacher.
The finalized cast includes Kat Dennings (‘Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist,’ ‘The House Bunny,’ ‘40 Year Old Virgin’), Josh Lucas (‘Sweet Home Alabama,’ ‘Poseidon,’ ‘Wonderland’), Andie MacDowell (‘Sex, Lies and Videotape,’ and a bunch of rom-coms), and Reece Thompson (‘Assassination of a High School President’). Note: Reports that Hayden Pantierre and Scott Speedman are cast are not true.
Not sure if the title ‘Daydream Nation‘ came directly from the Sonic Youth album but, since there is a character named Thurston, i am guessing it is not a coincidence (Thurston Moore is Sonic Youth’s singer, songwriter and guitarist). MovieSet will ask first-time director Mike Goldbach – who also wrote the script – about his influences and inspirations for the story, names and locations.
Do you have any questions or specific areas of interest for cast or crew? Ask away and we’ll get Bender on the task. Who knows the fame and treats which could await you if we use your question! (No, don’t ask if Kat/Josh will go out with you).
Here’s the Daydream Nation synopsis: In this darkly comedic coming-of-age story, a teenage girl moves from the city to a small town, only to find she has absolutely nothing in common with the stoner-hicks who populate her high school. So Caroline Wexler begins an affair with the one person she connects with: her handsome young teacher. But with a serial killer on the loose and townsfolk disappearing around them, their relationship takes a turn for the worse—and when Caroline breaks it off in favor of a boy her age, the rejection makes her teacher crazy, driving the film towards its surreal, heartbreaking, wildly romantic conclusion.
With all the moving parts in order, Daydream Nation is full steam ahead with a compelling script, interesting (and kinda quirky) cast, and fortified with sex, drugs, murder and now, MovieSet.
