Friday the 13th images and poster

Like it or not, the remake of the classic slasher horror film Friday the 13th is making it’s way to screens on Friday February 13th, 2009.

In case you have forgotten, the plot of the film, produced by Michael Bay and directed by Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake helmer, Marcus Nispel, is “a group of young adults discover a boarded up Camp Crystal Lake, where they soon encounter Jason Voorhees and his deadly intentions.” [source IMDb]

Ahead of the film comes a trailer (you can view in HD via Yahoo!) and a poster that you can look at with screenshots from the trailer after the jump.

Here’s the poster:

If the marketing tells the tale, this film appears to be a gigantic and unnecessary helping of we’ve seen it all before with a side of who gives a shit. Too bad. It could have been a good thing, but you know damned well it wont be.

The target audience isn’t really we who remember this franchise’s beginning. Oh no. This film is for today’s weekend at the movies teens some of whom’s reviews are sure to go like so, ” ZOMG!!!!1!!1 That wuz teh best horror evar!!1!!11 Jason FTW!! Lulz”

It’s going to be huge, and yes, there will be more.

I am in disagreement with the statement that “we’ve seen it all before.” I have not seen a well made Friday the 13th film in, well since they started coming out. Michael Bay has done a wonderful job in his past movies. Transformers being the most popular, it was a huge box office hit, not only that it was a very well made film. After watching the trailer it is obvious that Michael Bay had a helping hand in the feature film. His films are very up-to-date and always a thrill ride. While on this thrill ride of excitement and wonder, he continues to keep the plot of the story the core of the film, which is something many filmmakers loose sight of.
The director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a great choice for a new Friday the 13th film. Chainsaw Massacre was not only filled with blood and violence, it was filled with anticipation and suspense. Suspense is the key component that most new films are missing out on. They’re so concerned with technology and how to make it look like his head got cut off that the producers are missing the point of the thrill ride. Back in the day, horror films used to make you jump out of your set, now they make you cringe your teeth. I want to be scared, not sickened. Hopefully this film will imbed this into the audience’s minds, if not this one then I hope someone does.
