Will Smith told the folks over at Film School Rejects that the Old Boy movie he and Steven Spielberg have been developing is not a remake of the Korean film by Chan-wook Park, but based on the original Japanese manga of the same name.
Smith said:
We’re looking at that right now. Not the film though, it’s the original source material. There’s the original comics of ‘Oldboy’ that they made the first film from. And that’s what we’re working from, not an adaptation of the film…
Sounds like some spin from Smith as a lot of the chatter about the news of a remake has been negative. If we’re hearing about it this much then it will definitely happen.
By the way, I’m still calling it a remake.
