Back to the Future inspires Nike shoes

It’s been nineteen years since “Back to the Future Part II” arrived in theaters with its then oh-so-futuristic look at the year 2015. Now that the reality of Marty McFly’s trip to the future is just a scant seven years away from right now has there been any of the film’s predictions of future life come to pass? Hoverboards? Flying cars? A Mr. Fusion power generator that replaces gasoline for time travelling DeLoreans? That’s a big negative — but now it appears that shoe manufacturer Nike is going to appease the fanbase by releasing a limited edition shoe inspired by the ones seen in the film. Take a look at the photo inside.

Nike is presenting the BTTF2-inspired “Hyperdunks” at a store in Santa Monica this afternoon. Word from those in the know are that the shoes come close to being a replica of those worn by Michael J. Fox in the movie but aren’t an exact match. Also distancing the Hyperdunks from the real deal is that neither “Back to the Future” nor Universal Pictures are branded with the sneakers. For a fan like me, these Hyperdunks are almost worth the $225  price tag — except that they don’t have powerlaces. C’mon Nike! That just defeats the whole purpose of owning a pair of shoes made in the future!
