Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, maybe

We’re not sure if this photo via Filmonic and JohnnyDepp.org is the first authentic photo of Depp as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, but it’s definitely worth a peek. Johnny Depp looks anemically undead in his make up and ultra-creepy with the bunny in his arms and complex wardrobe.
I hope it’s the real thing. Even if it isn’t it’s pretty creative.

Crispin Glover is a knave

Crispin Glover is set to play the Knave of Hearts in Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland, currently in production. With Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, and Burton’s usual cast of oddballs already in the film Glover adds that cherry on top of the wack job pie.
How crazy is Crispin Glover? Well the last movie I saw, Simon Says was practically unwatchable due to his weird accent, a weak story and poor direction. If you want true Glover bizarreness watch his film, What is it?, starring a cast made up of youngsters with Down Syndrome the next time he brings it to a city near you. Burton’s Wonderland finds two queens

Tim Burton has found his Alice and Mad Hatter; now he has found the two queens needed to populate his 3D Alice in Wonderland film. Surprising absolutely nobody at all is the addition to Helena Bonham Carter to the cast as the Red Queen; she’s been joined at the hip with Burton since 2000’s Planet of the Apes. What’s a little more unexpected is hearing that Anne Hathaway will play Carter’s sister, the White Queen.
Johnny Depp is playing the Mad Hatter and relative newcomer Mia Wasikowska is playing the youthful Alice. Burton’s movie will use motion capture technology to create computer generated characters based on the actor’s performances as well as traditional live action. Walt Disney Pictures wants the movie in theaters on March 5, 2010.

Mia Wasikowska as Alice in Wonderland

Above, and coming to us from INF (more pictures there), is one of the first photos of the relatively unknown 17 year old Mia Wasikowska starring as Alice in Tim Burton’s film adapation of the English literature classic written by Lewis Caroll, Alice in Wonderland. It just makes sense that Tim Burton is adapting a live action version of Alice. Well known for tackling the dark and fantastic with films like Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, Ed wood and Mars Attacks this long rumoured Burton project has his name written all over it.
Just yesterday THR announced that Johnny Depp will be playing the inconic Mad Hatter in the film. Also not a surprise as Depp and Burton have worked together many times before.
The buzz for this project is growing daily. Too bad that fans of the film will have to wait until March of 2010 for it’s release. Who knows, the media and marketing savvy Disney just may capitalize on the momentum and release the flick early.
We can always hope.
