The troupe behind ‘Mystery Team‘ tell the story about who they are and what this movie is all about in an interview from Comic-Con. In brief, it’s a story of former Encyclopedia Brown-style kid detectives who struggle for relevancy as they mature into adulthood … and wild hi-jinks ensue.

Mystery Team Synopsis

At age seven, Oakdale’s Mystery Team was a band of kid detectives dedicated to solving child-sized mysteries (like who put their finger in the pie, and who stole the tricycle), and the town loved them for it. Now they’re eighteen years old, about to graduate from high school, yet they’re still storming the playground to bust little kids, and the town of Oakdale is sick to death of it. When a little girl sees their sign advertising “Mysteries Solved, Ten Cents,” she asks the gang to find out who killed her parents. The Team embarks on a mystery that takes them deep into a violent conspiracy that sees their lives threatened, their friendship strained and tests their claim that they’re “real detectives.

Even though Stone Cold isn’t going to lay down The Stunner (check the vid it rocks) on anyone anymore, for all you old school WWF (yes F) fans who remember Stone Cold the way i do, that is, Zambonis (ahaha yes!), ice cold beer, middle fingers, Vince McMahon flat on the mat and whole lotta whoop ass, gimme a HELL YEA and check out Stone Cold himself!

Since I was here at the MovieSet home office rather than on location in San Diego, I can’t really comment about the vibe but I’ve attended many ongoing epic events from Grateful Dead shows to SXSW Film, Interactive and Music fests in Austin, Texas to know that whereever you go, a certain amount of veterans will always grouse about some ‘new fangled {something}’ and loquaciously recount how great everything was ‘back in the day’.

I can say from my experience, that new influxes of fans to any scene flatten out as trends, interests, hobbies change, new conferences/concerts emerge and everything finds a balance – eventually. In five years time, there will be a few Twi-hards who showed up for the first time in 2009, who are whining about all those fans of {something} who don’t *really* fit in with this conference.

Either way you slice it, the best tactic is to make friends, realize everyone there came to explore their unique niche of whatever they are into. Despite the exteriors of the actors and fans, there is certainly more in common between fans of Edward Cullen and Bruce Wayne than there are differences.

Gotta gripe about “those meddling kids who don’t even …’? Instead of complaining, I suggest you buy a slice of pizza for a camper, sit down and see what they are into. You’ll find that stereo-types quickly fade and good times are hatched for all.

This week’s controversy over the scheduling of a Twilight movie at San Diego Comic-Con raised an issue that we at Good Comics for Kids have been thinking about for a while: Why don’t girls’ comics (and their other enthusiasms, for that matter) get any respect? Even the comics bloggers who leaped to defend the Twilight fans often speak with contempt of genres aimed at tween and teen girls, an attitude that was on full display later this week when Yen Press announced it would be publishing a Twilight manga.

Robin: Frankly, I find it bizarre that these classic comics fans, many of whom could teach a course on Silver Age comics and all the permutations of, say, the X-Men, completely dismiss fans being exactly the same way about what is undoubtedly female-driven literature: supernatural romance. I’m particularly intrigued by the comment about Dan Brown—whatever I may think of the quality of any of these books, why is it fine to dismiss the legions of fans these tales have?

Eva Volin: I’m going to SDCC. I’m going to line up to see the panels I’m interested in. I’m going to cheer for the artists whose work I enjoy. I’m going to ask questions and get autographs and maybe even do a little cosplaying. And I’m going to spend money at booths that have the merchandise I’m interested in. Lots of money. And if you don’t want my business, don’t worry. Call it women’s intuition, but I’ll be able to tell. And I’ll remember. And I’ll take my business, as well as my nieces’ and their friends’ business, to someone else’s booth.

Fanboy, Twihard, Otaku: Obsession is Never Good

But I think there’s another reaction, as well, one that doesn’t seem to be articulated or responded to as much: the inclusion of Twilight exclusive coverage is just the latest development in the ongoing transformation of San Diego Comic Con – which, to some degree, is some sort of “embassy” of comic culture – from a convention where people talk about comics to an all-purpose obsessive fan emporium. Twilight isn’t the first property, nor will it be the last, that inspires a certain demographic to follow it with quasi-religious fervor, and comics as an industry are basically letting themselves get ghettoized by association. Why is there Twilight coverage at the San Diego Comic Con? Is it because the book and movie share science-fiction/fantasy elements that could be of interest to readers of science-fiction/fantasy adventure comics? Is it because of the upcoming manga-inspired comics adaptation? Or is it because the premier comics exhibition in North America has allowed itself to turn into a dumping ground for every major property trying to attract the greatest concentration of most obsessive fans possible to get media coverage?

Girls and Fandom

I’ve seen this over and over again, though, in groups gathered around everything from punk rock to politics. When you’re marginalized from the larger culture, in part by choice but in a much larger part than we’d like to admit, not by choice, it’s easy to try to police your boundaries. Maybe it even gives you a better sense that you ARE different because you choose to be and not because your peers don’t understand your passion for the Misfits/Dennis Kucinich/Superman/Twilight. In other words, maybe enforcing the “no girls allowed” clubhousey nature of certain parts of comic fandom makes comic fans feel more special. Groups often define themselves by what they aren’t, after all.

The “Twilight” Panel was the hardest to get into at comic-con. I actually didn’t even get it!

Word started spreading on the dealer room floor that “Twilight” ruined comic-con!

People walked around with signs and much fun was made of “Twilight” fans.

At a convention as “out of this world” as comic-con, there is room for every type of fan.

The “Twilight” panel was enjoyed by all that attended.

I talked to several people, young and old, everyone was happy.

Lots of panels were devoted to everything pop culture TV show, movie, game and comic. Twilight had it’s place and it was at the top of the list of “must-see panels” for many attendees.

Lighten-up comic book guys, “Twilight” is here to stay. Live and let (unlive???)

SDCC: Iron Man’s New Armor, Why Twilight’s Ruining Everything, and Underwhelmingness

Here’s the worst part at the moment — Twilight. I really don’t have any problem with SDCC having a Twilight panel, and it’d be cool if there was some way to harness all those screaming teen girls to get interested in the other aspects of Comic con, although I don’t think much of an effort has been made in that direction. But! At 6pm last night, several thousand peopls weree camped out to see the Twilight panel that will be shown this afternoon. The the Twilight fans have effectively taken over Hall H, meaning if I wanted to see the Disney panel with Tron 2 — and I really, really did — I would have had to get in line… yesterday at 6pm. This does not make me happy.

Is Comic-Con Anti-Fangirl?

Is Comic-Con anti-fangirl? It’s a good question. I know that it’s easy to stereotype that environment as a male-centric world, and it’s clear that certain promoters don’t or can’t see the value in advertising to a female fan base, but maybe the major question sticking as a thorn in the side of this issue is whether or not it’s okay to decry the popularity of Twilight because the fan base is mostly young girls. Newitz throws out the hypothetical of having a Star Wars panel before the Avatar footage – claiming that no one would wanted to have moved it because its fan base is mostly male, and male fans are tolerated as the “normal people” of Comic-Con.

On the one hand, I wonder if sites would complain that a Star Wars panel drawing in mobs and mobs of fans could possibly “ruin” this year’s Comic-Con because of its placement in the schedule.

On the other, I’m not sure if that argument is an accurate analogy considering the likelihood of Star Wars fans to be genuinely interested in Avatar whereas most Twilighters fled Hall H as soon as Edward stepped off stage last year. I think that there’s a frustration from some film websites that don’t cover Twilight because their audience doesn’t care about it, but I’m surprised a bit by most of them because it seems like, if done right, a representative journalist could get in line in the morning, hang out in Hall H all day, and update from there. He or she would sit comfortably in a seat throughout all of the panels and never have to worry about the hordes, be they huge mobs of girls or boys.

Will Twilight Ruin This Year’s Comic-Con?

I’m not a Twilight hater. We wrote about the first film a few times, and received a ton of extra traffic as a result. But I learned quickly that it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Not only that, but it isn’t something most /Film readers are interested in. That’s why we generally don’t cover the Twilight films (aside from some trailers or page 2 items). Unlike others, I don’t feel threatened by the books, films, or insane fandom. Why should I? Twilighters can do their own thing, and it really doesn’t affect me at all… except for when it does. And the one time it might is at a place called Comic-Con.

Summit Entertainment’s panel takes place 15 minutes after the close of the Avatar presentation. Anyone who attended last year’s Comic-Con can attest to how much of a cluster-fuck was caused by Twilight’s presentation in Hall H. Hundreds of tweens and Twilight Moms/Dads camped overnight to be the first ones into Hall H. By the time the “normal people” began to line up hours before doors were set to open, thousands of Twilighters were already in line.

Hall H fits 6,000-6,500 people , yet many people were shut out of the opening 20th Century Fox panel, and when the Summit panel began you couldn’t even hear yourself think as four or five thousand Twilight fans screamed in unison. It was a bit sad seeing a 50-year-old Twilight Mom asking a 22-year old Robert Pattinson if he wears boxers or briefs, but Im not writing today to talk about that. When the Summit panel ended, Hall H rapidly emptied, as more than 80% of the people exited the building. The rest of the day/weekend became a lot less stressful. But a lot of the people that wanted to attend the early morning panel missed out.

The crowd literally went mad as some very exclusive footage from Iron Man 2 was shown for the first time to this patient and loving audience this afternoon on day three of this four-day annual event called Comic Con here in San Diego, CA.

Most of the members of the audience in Hall H had been in their seats since early morning waiting calmly and applauding supportively at the reels and presentations of the earlier films including Solomon Kane, Extract, Zombieland and 2012. Hall H is the largest venue at Comic-Con and pretty much the epicenter for all of the film presentations with a maximum capacity of 6,500 people. Needless to say the hall was filled to capacity and lines of people snaked outside the building with thousands more waiting to get in! There is no overflow here, you are either in or you are out. And if you don’t get here early, you are out. As in outside!

Even members of the press, such as myself, have to be in line early if we want to get in. I was outside and in line at about 10 AM to make sure I was inside for the 4 PM presentation. I was so lucky I managed to get in just as the LOST panel was let out and several thousand LOST fans came streaming out and ran for their computers. Luckily TV folk and film folk don’t always cross over!

The panel actually started on time but started in a rather lack-luster fashion. They brought out Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Pictures, who said a few words, and then they brought out the director and the leader of team ‘Iron Man’: Jon Favreau. The applause and support by the crowd was tremendous. He walked out carrying a Flip camera and recorded the applause and flashes from the thousands of blinking cameras that were snapping almost simultaneously. The room looked like it was transformed into one giant light show. Not wishing to waste any time, they immediately launched into a trailer for the upcoming Iron Man 2.

The footage they showed was introduced by a cheesy sounding, 50’s b-movie voice with awkward lettering and graphics introducing us to the upcoming ACTION and ADVENTURE of IRON MAN 2, coming out next summer. The preview was about 45 seconds long and pathetic. There audible gasps and hisses from parts of the assembled masses. There really wasn’t any of the coolness or wow factor that these folks are used to. I immediately picked up my pad and started to scribble my notes of shock and wonder and promptly gave the presentation a D- for effort and creativity and an F for wasting my time.

However, as the lights came up whom do we see standing on stage between Kevin and Jon? None other than a very dapper and handsomely coiffed Robert Downey Jr.. He was stylishly dressed in a blue, pin-stripe suit with a white shirt and a blue tie with red and yellow swirls. Very classic, yet a bold choice of colors. He was certainly channeling his character Mr. Stark.

We were then treated to what was clearly a staged argument where Robert Downey Jr. berated Favreau and Feige for giving the audience such a poor presentation and Favreau tried to make up the same excuses we typically hear used by directors “we’re aren’t ready,” and “the footage isn’t done yet,” or the classic “it’s too soon to show anything…” the audience loved the banter as Downey yelled at them and exclaimed that the audience seated in Hall H deserved more and that he had seen more in the trailer during shooting! Now let’s see some real footage!

With that fun, yet clearly staged exchange over, the lights went down again and the ‘real’ presentation began with an extended first-look at Iron Man 2. The sequences were terrific and starts off with Downey’s character seated in his Iron Man suit with the helmet off, inside the donut of the iconic ‘Randy’s Donuts’ in West Los Angeles, eating a donut. At this point Samuel Jackson’s character, Nick Fury, calls for him to come down. We are then treated to an exchange between the two inside the donut shop and then to Tony Stark testifying in front of a Senate sub-committee lead by a Senator Stern (expertly played by Gary Shandling). The audience roared at his appearance and seemed to really enjoy seeing him play such an unlikeable character.

There were flight sequences and weapons seen but the moment everyone was waiting for was of course the appearance and introduction of Ivan Vanko/ Whiplash played by the Academy Award nominated actor- Mickey Rourke.

His appearance on screen again elicited cheers and acclaim from the audience. These fans were clearly soaking it all in and loving every frame. There were also sequences of a bad-ass Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/ Black Widow in full fighting mode, Don Cheadle, Sam Rockwell and Gwyneth Paltrow all made appearances in the extended preview clip for Iron Man 2.

After the lights came up the audience was treated to Don Cheadle, Sam Worthington, and Scarlett Johansson joining the rest on the stage. At this point the audience stood up and all of Hall H was on its feet applauding, cheering and snapping photos. There was so much light in that room it felt like a disco ball had exploded!

While discussing the movie, Jon excused the fact that Mickey Rourke was not able to make it to Comic-Con as much as he wished he could, but he was working on another project and hopes to make it down next time. So serious was Mickey Rourke about learning the Russian accent for his part in this movie that when he learned his character, Ivan Vanko, had been in a Russian prison, he went to Russia and to a Russian prison. Jon Favreau joked about the way he learned about his was by watching TMZ and hearing that Mickey Rourke was in a Russian prison… for research, not by getting arrested!

The scenes shown for Iron Man 2 further confirmed that the sequel will only be better than, stronger than and more amazing than the first, it will Hall H awarded the cast and crew of Iron Man 2 with thunderous applause and for that the presentation reel was played a second time. As well, Don Cheadle asked it to be played again as he was not out on stage the first time it ran. Thanks Don!

There was a short Q&A with questions fielded from the audience that were softballs at best and ludicrous at worst. I thought they pre-screened these people!

Paramount certainly knows how to put on a show and based on the overwhelmingly positive reaction by the over 6,500 people in the audience at Hall H this afternoon, Iron Man 2 will not only be a hit next summer, it will do even better than the first and probably set a new standard for summer-time blockbusters. Personally I can’t wait for May 7, 2010.

Taylor Lautner at Comic Con San Diego discussing New Moon

Robert Pattinson get most of the attention in the media but Taylor Lautner who plays Jacob Black in the Twilight movies, has a devoted following of fans. Here’s a bit more about this young actor’s career so far:

Taylor Lautner Bio:

TAYLOR LAUTNER (Jacob) got his big break in 2005 when, at the age of 13, he won the role of Shark Boy in Robert Rodriguez’s The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D. Within months, he had successfully auditioned to play Eliot, the son of Steve Martin’s rival Jimmy Murtaugh, in the family hit Cheaper by the Dozen 2. Lautner was born in 1992 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He began studying karate at the age of 6 and was winning tournaments by age 7. He was soon invited to train with seven-time world karate champion Mike Chat and by age 8, Lautner was asked to represent his country at the World Karate Association championships.

He proved himself by becoming the Junior World Forms and Weapons champion, winning three gold medals. Lautner continued to flourish on the martial arts circuit. In 2003, at age 11, he was ranked No. 1 in the world in several categories and over the next year tucked three Junior World Championships under his black belt. Lautner was first bitten by the acting bug at age 7, when his martial arts instructor persuaded him to audition for a Burger King commercial in Los Angeles. When he was 10, his family made the difficult decision to relocate to L.A., where Lautner could audition on a full-time basis.

Since the move, Lautner 17 has landed roles on “My Wife and Kids,” “Summerland,” “The Bernie Mac Show” and “The Nick and Jessica Variety Hour.” Lautner has been very successful in the world of voiceover work. He has a recurring role as Youngblood on the cartoon “Danny Phantom” and voiced characters for two episodes of “What’s New, Scooby-Doo?” and “Charlie Brown.” In his spare time, Lautner enjoys playing football and baseball. He also participates in the hip-hop dance group L.A. Hip Kids. Lautner also enjoys making home movies with his friends, including Lava Girl from Lava Girl and Sharkboy, actress Taylor Dooley, who coincidentally lives near his Los Angeles home.

Saw VI Finished, Saw VII and VIII Planned – ReelzChannel - Production has wrapped on Saw VI, which kicks off the editing process on a movie that director Kevin Greutert called “mind-numbingly complex” on his blog. Greutert is pretty confident that the public will like the sixth installment of the series.

Saw VI is no Twilight but still makes splash at Comic-Con – Examiner.com – Saw VI will have a minimal presence at Comic-Con relative to other franchise frenzies like that of Twilight, but excitement remains, indeed. And although much isn’t known about the plot of the new film, the poster depicts people chained around a swirling circle with the tag line “The Game Comes Full Circle.”

Synopsis:
A classic character of film, television, radio, and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen as the vigilante crime-fighter.

The film will be Directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) from a screenplay written by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express), based upon “The Green Hornet” radio series created by George W. Trendle, and produced by Neal H. Moritz (The Fast and the Furious).

Comic-Con in San Diego, CA, is an annual multi-genre fan convention. It is a four-day event (July 23rd – 26th) held during the summer in San Diego, California, at the San Diego Convention Center. Originally showcasing comic books, science fiction/fantasy and film/television, and related popular arts, the convention has expanded over the years to include a larger range of pop culture elements, such as horror, anime, manga, animation, toys, collectible card games, video games, webcomics, and fantasy novels. The convention is the largest of its kind in the world, filling to capacity the San Diego Convention Center with over 125,000 attendees in 2007.

At an all 3-D panel, Disney released images from A Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland and Tron 2.0 - all movies we’ve monitored for months. While some of the “new” stuff released, we’ve had for a while, there are a few fresh tid-bits to share.

Jim Carrey is playing Ebenezer Scrooge + all three ghosts in the upcoming Christmas Carol which also was promoted heavily at the Cannes Film Fest as well as an extensive train journey.

TRON 2.0 is heading to post-production after shooting in Vancouver. If you don’t know much about the original, you really should track it down and examine a ground-breaking film. They released a vintage title treatment to amuse the veteran fans.

I arrived in San Diego this afternoon expecting to see the usual pre-convention planning and preparation as exhibitors scurry to complete their booths and set up their stalls for the onslaught of the preview night fans. Little did I know what was in store for me! Welcome to Comic-Con 2009!

This year pre-view night was so busy that by 2 PM there were already attendees lined up and they waited FOUR HOURS in line to be the first to get into the San Diego Convention Center so they could start to wait in line again for Comic-Con toy exclusives, poster signings and merchandise sales.Once the doors opened the aisles were so jammed with fans it was impossible to navigate and difficult to stop and look around! And this was only preview night. What on earth will Saturday be like? Typically in year’s past, Thursday has been the slowest of the days with it building in size, attendance and magnitude as it went on. Saturday has historically been the biggest and craziest day, but given in insance preview night crowds, I can hardly wait to see what Thursday and Friday will be like, much less Saturday!

Comic-Con celebrates its 40th birthday this year with 2009 making it the biggest and best attended Comic-Con in history!

It all started in 1970 with a one-day minicon (think of it as “Comic-Con Zero”) at the U.S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego. The first guests were Forrest J Ackerman (Famous Monsters of Filmland’s famous editor) and Mike Royer, best known for his work inking Jack Kirby’s “Fourth World” books. That one-day event tested the waters -— and raised funds —- for the first ever San Diego Comic-Con (then called “San Diego’s West Coast Comic-Con”) in August of the same year, which featured comics legend Jack Kirby and science fiction authors Ray Bradbury and A. E. van Vogt. And the rest, as they say, is history -— including Kirby, Bradbury, and Ackerman going on to become three of Comic-Con’s favorite guests over the years (both Ray and Forry were present again in 2008).

That first show and its logo set the groundwork for what would become, over the next 39 years, the country’s leading comics and popular arts convention. From the very beginning the event has focused on “comic art, films, and science fiction.”

In 2008, for the first time in its history, Comic-Con sold out in advance. That’s right—the show saw record attendance, with every membership—both four days and single days—all sold before the Convention Center doors even opened. And once again, they’ve sold out in advance. No memberships are sold at the door.

If you don’t already have tickets, DO NOT COME TO SAN DIEGO. You will be disappointed and be turned away.

TENT CITY at COMIC-CON 2009

But there were some very brave and well organized fans that traveled from far and wide to make it to San Diego and stake their place in line to be among the first to get in to Hall H on Thursday morning. I spoke with some who had flown in from Texas, driven in from Phoenix, AZ, Riverside, CA, Bakersfield, Los Angeles and all over California. Who are these fans and what had they come to see?

NEW MOON. That’s right, Twilight fans, in anticipation of the New Moon presentation tomorrow at 1 PM in Hall H, 1,000’s have already camped out and have been in place since 9 PM on Tuesday the July 21st! Hall H, for those who have not made it down to Comic-Con in San Diego, is the epi-center for all things holy at Comic-Con and where all the studios roll out their trailers, clips, special sneak peeks and bring out the casts of their movies to meet and greet the fans.

MEGA TWILIGHT FANS

So high is the anticipation that the campers have come out in full force bringing tents, inflatable beds, chairs, computers (free wifi is being provided this year by the Convention Center), coolers and food. They are well prepared and psyched to be here! It was a party-like atmosphere with the campers sharing food, water and watching each other’s belongings while taking bathroom breaks or running out to get more Starbucks.

I spoke with Aura Reynolds and her daughter Rebecca who were the very first in line with their group of die-hard fans to get into Hall H. They were ecstatic to be first in line and were really looking forward to seeing the cast and especially Robert Pattinson.They had arrived at 9 PM the night before and were thrilled to be assured admittance. They brought with them a tent, pillows, blankets and lots of snacks. Their husbands and boyfriends were not to be found as they all preferred to stay back at the hotel and sleep in the comfy bed instead.

Annie To of Torrance, CA was the first in line for her Comic-Con 2009 badge. She arrived at 1:30 PM and was still all smiles with only 12 hours left to go from the time this photo was snapped till the doors open at 9 AM Thursday morning for badge distribution.

The age range found in line is also something truly remarkable. I met grandmothers who were waiting with their daughters and granddaughters! This was a three-generational span of love for Twilight. I don’t know if there is another series of books or movies that can count on such a loyal and passionate following.

I will be here for the next Four Days covering all the angels of Comic-Con and bringing you the news, the photos and the scoops only a die-hard movie fan and Comic-Con geek such as myself can dig up.

The studio will showcase cast and filmmaker panels along with footage from its upcoming movies including the highly anticipated sequel, The Twilight Saga: New Moon on Thursday, July 23rd. Among the fan-friendly attractions are sneak peeks at upcoming releases including ASTRO BOY, SORORITY ROW and THE TWILIGHT SAGA: New Moon, the highly-anticipated sequel to its blockbuster vampire romance.

Panel presentations, featuring exclusive footage from each film, will take place at the San Diego Convention Center from 1:45-2:45 for The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon – The highly anticipated sequel to last year’s box-office smash TWILIGHT is the subject of a question-and-answer session featuring surprise members of the cast. In anticipation of being one of the convention’s most talked-about events, the panel will also thrill the crowd with a first look at never-before-seen footage from the film. With The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan) and Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) return in a captivating new chapter of the action epic that has enthralled audiences around the world.

Summit is also proud to present “The Twilight Experience” a one-night-only special theatrical re-release of global sensation TWILIGHT, featuring an introduction by cast members.

Throughout the convention, visitors to the Summit Entertainment booth in the Grand Hall will have the opportunity to have their pictures taken in an exclusive The Twilight Saga: New Moon photo booth and collect special edition trading cards for the film. They can also meet the CG-animated versions of classic characters brought to new life in ASTRO BOY. With each spin of the prize wheel, lucky visitors will win promotional giveaways or exclusive prizes.

If the last three Star Wars prequels left a sour taste in your mouth, you’ll want to head over to David Berry’s blog for some authentic Star Wars nostalgia. Last Tuesday the optical cameraman posted 8mm home movies of his special effects team in action at the Van Nuys studio in 1976. Berry describes  it as “crude home movies from the 1970s depicting activities at a certain location in the San Fernando Valley.” Set to John Williams’ gorgeous trade mark scores, the 10-minute reel introduces us to those responsible for flipping the visual effects universe on its head, and of course shows the crew manipulating some of the models used in actual filming.

A lot of the names in this movie are now legendary. As for David Berry himself, he hasn’t got a lot of film credits to his name — the Star Wars trilogy, Indiana Jones trilogy, E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Battlestar Galactica among them — but every one certainly counts.

In related news, George Lucas is rumored to be speaking through video conference at this year’s Comic-Con Star Wars pavilion. There’s no mention on whether he has news on the possibility of a Star Wars live-action television series, but if there’s any time and place to talk, Comic-Con is it.
