As part of our exclusive interview with Hellboy II director of photography Guillermo Navarro, MovieSet’s Quinn Bender asked the man how the use of so many moving mechanical monsters affected the look of the film. Watch Navarro’s response to Quinn’s question below the fold:

So when we had the chance to speak exclusively with Academy Award winning cinematographer Guillermo Navarro we had to ask him where he keeps his Oscar for Pan’s Labryinth. I mean, come on! You’re talking to someone that won an Oscar — you’ve gotta ask where they keep it! And the man, cool as he is, gave us this awesome down-to-earth answer:

Last weekend at the Vancouver International Film Festival’s New Filmmaker Day, Quinn, Patrick and myself sat down with well known and award winning director of photography, Guillermo Navarro, for a video interview. We found Navarro, who won an Oscar (and many other awards) for the other Guillermo’s (del Toro) film, Pan’s Labyrinth, to be open and wonderfully candid about all we questioned him on.
After the READ MORE link is a 13 second teaser video of Navarro speaking about his possible involvement in the upcoming Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro telling of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic, The Hobbit:
It’s just a tiny taste, but later today we’ll see some more nicely edited video footage of Guillermo Navarro talking about shooting the recent Hellboy 2 as well as other exclusive information about the man and his storied career.

Hellboy DOP at Vancouver International Film Festival Trade Forum

This is shaping up to be quite a year for the Vancouver International Film Festival. At the trade forum this year Guillermo Navarro, Guillermo del Toro’s cinematographer is speaking. VIFF is calling the event “Hellboy: Ready for his Close-up” - Master Class with Oscar-winning Cinematographer Guillermo Navarro, ASC, AMC. Here’s the information on the event:
A highlight of New Filmmakers’ Day is Guillermo Navarro, ASC, AMC, acclaimed cinematographer, known internationally for his spectacular work with Guillermo del Toro on Hellboy II: The Golden Army, The Devil’s Backbone, Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth and Cronos. Navarro has also collaborated with directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino on Desperado, Four Rooms, From Dusk Till Dawn, Spy Kids and Jackie Brown. He is also know for his filming of the large action and effects movies The Long Kiss Goodnight, Zathura, Spawn, Stuart Little and Night At The Museum.
According to Forum Creative Director Helen du Toit, “We’ve scoured the globe to find the most innovative and groundbreaking cinematographers, writers, producers and directors. This year’s line-up will feature a gathering of professionals at the top of their game ready and willing to share their expertise and experience.”
The 23rd annual Film and Television Forum takes place in the Rogers Industry Centre at the Vancouver International Film Centre and Vancity Theatre, 1181 Seymour Street, September 24-26 with New Filmmakers’ Day on September 27.
