The new Nightmare on Elm Street is coming soon
Friday, December 12, 2008

Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes (no, it’s not the name of a “gentlemen’s club” but the production company that Bay co-owns) has been on a horror movie remake rampage. First they did The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, then it was The Amityville Horror followed by The Hitcher and shortly it will be a new Friday the 13th. After that what else is left to do but remake A Nightmare on Elm Street, right?
Brad Fuller, one of the other co-founders of Platinum, has told Shock Till You Drop that the company’s next movie will be a new, reimagined Nightmare. “It’s like what we’re doing to Friday the 13th,” Fuller told the site. “It’s not Freddy cracking jokes. We want to make a horrifying movie. The concept is so scary, don’t fall asleep or you’ll die. This guy gets you when you’re most vulnerable, in your sleep. We love that. That’s the basis of the movie. It’ll be most similar to the first one but in terms of kills and dreams we’ll borrow from the entire series.” Continue reading…

Romero zombie picture for Halloween
Friday, October 31, 2008
Just in time for Halloween, coming to us from USA Today, we get our first look at a zombie (above) from the new and as yet still untitled George A. Romero directed, "Something" of the Dead. The article claims the film is still shooting in Toronto, but according to other sources MovieSet has found out the film wrapped over the past week.
"It’s about tribalism," says Romero about the story that unfolds on a small island a couple of weeks after the original outbreak in 1968’s Night of the Living Dead. "There are two factions. It’s the idea that even when faced with a crisis, tribal concerns about power control people’s motives."
Sounds like lost with zombies.
The recent Diary of the Dead felt rushed and I was disappointed in it. Hopefully this one will be better.

More movie pumpkins
Friday, October 31, 2008
If you thought that the Predator pumpkin was pretty cool wait until you see some of the other movie inspired pumpkin carvings that Scott Cummins of Perryton, Texas has done. He’s done Iron Man. He’s done Yoda, Boba Fett, Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper from the Star Wars movies. He’s done the squidfaced Davey Jones from the last two Pirates of the Caribbean films. The chestbuster from Alien? Yup. Over here, this is Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. I’m pretty sure that this guy is supposed to be King Kong and this is the malevolent Chrysler Fury from John Carpenter’s Christine. And yeah, you know it, that pumpkin above is the shark from Jaws. In short, he’s done a lot of cool pumpkin designs going back years that you will drool over. See what Scott’s carved pumpkin designs on his website, PumpkinGutter.com.

Friday the 13th trailer online
Thursday, October 23, 2008
The trailer for this Friday the 13th remake looks like fun. I’m not sure how I feel about fast Jason though. His slow but relentless pace in the older films is part of what made him as scary as he was. I do realize that Jason ran in a couple of the those movies, but that doesn’t mean I have to like that fact.

Splinter on MovieSet
Thursday, October 09, 2008
Somewhere in the deep Oklahoma woods lurks a frightening parasite not seen by man until now. Splinter tells the story of two couples, one planning to spend a romantic weekend away from the city, the other a couple on the run and looking for a vehicle. Eventually the four people come to rest at a remote gas station where they encounter the bizarre animal that infects animals and humans to make more versions of itself. Once the creature gets under your skin you start growing spine-like quills from your skin. Soon after your body begins to make jerky movements that you aren’t in control of. How do you fight something that attacks you from the inside and uses your body as a weapon?
Directed by Toby Wilkins, Splinter will make its debut on HDNET on October 29 and then come out in limited release two days later on Halloween but in only four venues (Village East, New York NY; Sunset 5, Los Angeles CA; Dobie, Austin TX; and Oklahoma City Museum of Art, OK.) Wilkins told fans that if the opening weekend for his show is good then we can expect Splinter to roll out in more places. For now, MovieSet has some goodies for you to get you creeped out including the Splinter trailer, a five-minue behind-the-scenes featurette and 7 stills from the film. Wander into MovieSet’s home for Splinter but be careful that you don’t get pricked by something nasty.
