Actors and the Characters They Will Never Escape

Portraying an iconic character in a movie is the dream of most actors. Unfortunately, when they do it too well, they may be condemned by the movie Gods to repeat that role for the rest of their career. While the actors that portrayed these famous characters have done other work (or even switched careers), they’ll always be indelibly linked to those iconic roles, for better or worse. Some have accepted their lot in life and others have spent their careers desperately trying to put their on-screen alter-ego to rest, once and for all. But when the fat paychecks come calling again, they swallow their pride and don the red headband, slip into that tuxedo, head into the makeup trailer and practice their catchphrases.
The following is a look at some of the most famous movie characters of the past three decades and the actors that will never escape them.

This week on Behind the Scenes, Eric and Shaun talk about the latest Bond movie “Quantum of Solace” which just released on DVD, followed by a look at the new CRAZY action movie “Punisher: WarZone“. Finally we take another look behind the scenes of the MMA movie “Death Warrior“.
First off Eric and Shaun talk about Quantum of Solace. The movie just released on DVD and is the sequel to Casino Royal. If you haven’t seen it yet, its a good watch, but some people would say that it wasn’t able to meet expectations after the hugely successful Casino Royal
breathed life back into what had become a stale series.
Then we look at Punisher: WarZone which releases on DVD today. Its a gritty action flick geared towards fans of the comic book. Waging his one-man war on the world of organized crime, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle sets his sights on overeager mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias: Jigsaw.
Finally we take another look at Death Warrior. MovieSet has had exclusive access to the set during production and have tons and tons of cool content on the movie. You should definitely check out the Death Warrior Sitelet to check it out, including interviews with Rashad Evans and Georges St-Pierre.

Variety makes note of videogame titan Electronic Arts signing a deal with the estate of Bourne creator Robert Ludlum to make games based on his spy books. Ludlum passed away in 2001 but thanks to the tremendous box office success of Universal’s Bourne films, the author has never been hotter — or more attractive — to entertainment companies. Patrick McGoohan has died. The long-time British actor passed away yesterday in Los Angeles at the age of 79 and the cause of death was not released by the family. McGoohan rose to prominence in the 1960s playing the part of secret agent John Drake in the CBS TV series Danger Man. Although the show only stuck around for one season, it was at the height of the popularity of James Bond and the Cold War so it’s impact was a big one. However, McGoohan’s most memorable role may be that of another spy character, the anonymous Number Two, in the legendary 17-episode series The Prisoner. Continue reading…

Now that the holidays are over, the post-mortem for 2008’s box office is also being offered. The clear winner last year was Warner Bros. who had the runaway success of The Dark Knight behind them. With global ticket sales of $997 million dollars, Dark Knight didn’t just prove to be the biggest superhero movie of all-time, it also became the second highest-grossing film ever. Thanks to the Batman movie as well as Sex in the City and Four Christmases, WB enjoyed revenue of $1.77 billion dollars, the biggest haul of cash ever for a movie studio.

There’s so many items that are movie tie-ins that it’s hard to get excited about seeing the next action figure, Star Wars hoodie design or special edition DVD case, but today I saw something that got me feeling like a kid on Christmas morning. Swatch unveiled their latest special line-up of watches: 22 watches all inspired by the villains from the James Bond film series. Each 007 movie bad guy/gal gets his own her own watch. I’ve gone through all 22 different designs and they all have their own kind of awesome.

It didn’t come as any surprise to me when word crept out from Universal that the studio has signed Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass to do another Jason Bourne movie. The existing trilogy of Bourne-mania — The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum — have earned $525 million dollars at the box office domestically and have also been loved by movie critics. In fact, it’s likely that the reason Daniel Craig has to thank for his job as the current 007. And there hasn’t been any shortage of suggestions that Jason Bourne could continue to star in more movies, giving Uni its own James Bond-ish spy franchise that could extend for decades. And today comes the proof that the suits in their Black Tower have been thinking of doing just that.

Every new Bond film guarantees us another theme song performed (and usually written) by an A-list musical talent. Shirley Basset gave us the memorable tune for Goldfinger, Duran Duran sold us on From a View to a Kill but Madonna’s Die Another Day flatlined on the record charts. Just merely being a James Bond tune doesn’t automatically mean that the song will be memorable. So what’s the buzz on the next Quantum of Solace tune, the duet by Jack White of The White Stripes and Alicia Keys called “Another Way to Die”? Listen for yourself and find out.
The song is now on the internet and can be heard in its entirety. In my opinion it’s got a good start that grabs you but then it loses its momentum and becomes forgetful pretty fast.
So there it is and I’m meh about it. What’s your take on the tune? Think that it could be a hit or will it sink faster than George Lazenby’s film career after he made On Her Majesty’s Secret Service?

Daniel Craig returns for his second mission as the world’s most suave secret agent in Quantum of Solace, the new James Bond movie set for release on November 7. For the first time ever in the Bond franchise Quantum is a direct sequel to the previous 007 film, Casino Royale. After being betrayed by Vesper Lynd, watching her die and then learning that she was blackmailed by a terrorist organization with tentacles across the globe, Bond goes after the bad guys and doesn’t pull any punches. Crossing the globe in search of his quarry, 007 allies with a beautiful woman (Olga Kurylenko) who is also on a mission of vengeance against the same people he’s hunting.
MovieSet’s sitelet for Quantum of Solace is now up and we’ve got plenty for you to download. Take a look at nearly three dozen stills from the movie, watch the film’s trailer and then see the behind-the-scenes interviews with Daniel Craig about what’s new for his character in the latest adventure. We’ll also be adding more behind-the-scenes videos to our Quantum site in the days ahead.
And here’s a little trivia fact about the title of the flick: Quantum of Solace was selected by producer Michael Wilson only a few days before it was officially announced to the world. Wilson took the title from a short story that Bond creator Ian Fleming wrote in his “For Your Eyes Only” compilation.
