William Shatner’s views on the new Star Trek trailer
Thursday, November 20, 2008
This found on YouTube: a short video showing what the original Captain Kirk, one William Shatner, thinks of being recast by a younger actor in J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek movie. Yeah, I can see the logic to his thinking.

New vs. old Star Trek
Friday, October 17, 2008

Quickly, answer the following: which Kirk is wearing the girdle?
Now that we’ve finally had our first taste of what we can expect to see in J.J. Abrams new Star Trek movie, Cinemablend has put together a comparison between the old and the new versions of the characters, the costumes and the bridge of the Enterprise. For example, on the left we’ve got 27-year-old Chris Pine playing Captain Kirk at the start of his command and on the right we’ve got thirtysomething William Shatner as the original Captain Kirk from the 1960s TV series. Speaking for myself, Pine looks too young for my sensibility; I just can’t buy this guy commanding a starship. Modeling for a JCrew catalogue, yes.

JJ Abrams predicts earthquake
Tuesday, August 12, 2008

JJ Abrams, Producer of TV’s ‘Lost‘, ‘Cloverfield’ and the much anticipated ‘Star Trek’ revamp is teaming with original ‘Omen‘ scribe David Seltzer to “shake up audiences” for an earthquake disaster film. Abrams says that this film is NOT a remake of the 1974 offering Earthquake (seen in the poster above). Keeping with Abrams usual M.O. details are sketchy but if the innovative and creepy Cloverfield is any indication this should be at least an 8.0 on the richter scale (I’m such a hack).
Personally I like disaster films. I’m looking forward to this one. In fact I enjoy disaster films so much that my wife and I took in the original Poseidon Adventure (not the most recent excuse for a film of the same name) again recently. Billed as “Hell, upside down” Poseidon follows a band of clichéd one dimensional characters on a hacky formulaic quest to escape the bowels of a flipped over ocean liner lead by Gene Hackman as a hip minister who’s lost his faith. Crap, but fun crap.
Especially fun was watching for the ubiquitous mid-70’s morality messages in the film. What did we learn? We learned that even if you’re the hooker with a heart of gold who’s changed your ways, you should never pick on fat ladies. You’ll die.
Who dies picking on fat ladies in Abrams’ movie? I guess that remains to be seen.
