Variety’s review of Twilight: it sucks

I’ve just read the first review published by a major news outlet for Twilight and it’s not a good one. That doesn’t mean that I believe the film is going to bomb at all; this thing is now a genuine phenom and is going to do at least $45 million dollars worth of ticket sales this weekend. No, what I think we’re seeing is another review proof movie, just as the three Star Wars prequels were. Shaky acting, too much soulless CG and weak storylines didn’t seem to matter with audiences who paid up to see The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Quite possibly Twilight could be the fangirl equivalent of this kind of movie event. Continue reading…

Twilight selling out early

According to THR Twilight tickets are selling out quickly:
Online ticketers Fandango and MovieTickets said Monday that the Summit Entertainment film has sold out hundreds of performances four days before its Friday opening in about 3,400 locations. Fandango has sold out almost 700 shows — including 500 or so midnight Thursday screenings — and MovieTickets counted more than 400 sellouts of various showtimes.
“Twilight” accounted for more than 85% of presales in recent days, the ticketers said.
Even if Twilight opens well will it be able to beat out last week’s fave Quantum of Solace? Also opening this week, in more theaters with a broader fan base, is the 3D animated Bolt. I have a funny feeling all of the tweenie-boppers and their moms will be happy with the performance of the little vampire film that could come Monday morning.

Another horror related top list in October? How cliché. But wait. What’s it about? Ooh! Shiny!
We here at MovieSet have poured through hours of footage and page after page of photos on the internet to bring you our list of the top 13 female movie vampires.
The vampire vixens below are some of the most smokin’ hotties to bear fangs and suck the life blood from their victims on the silver screen.

13. Sheryl Lee from John Carpenter’s Vampires
Sheryl Lee came the public’s attention as wholesome small town murder victim Laura Palmer in the cult smash miniseries by David Lynch called Twin Peaks. Sheryl’s anything but wholesome playing Katrina, a prostitute attending a party put on by a group of vampire hunters led by Crow, played by James Woods. After she is bitten by Valek, the master vampire and begins to turn, Crow uses Katrina’s psychic connection with her to track and hopefully kill the monster.
12. Kristanna Loken from Bloodrayne
She was the leather clad female terminator in T3. She played a vampire called Rayne in Bloodrayne in both Uwe Boll’s films about the shapely, and also leather clad, video game character. Perhaps she should try a new outfit. Nah.
11. Jennifer Beals in a Vampire’s Kiss.
I know, that’s Nicolas Cage’s face, but I couldn’t find a good photo of the ex-Flashdance maniac in the film. I did, however, find the video of her biting Mr. Cage to get that movie’s story line going.
10. Traci Lords in Blade
Porn star. ‘Nuff said.
09. Milla Jovovich in Ultraviolet
Look it’s a super model vampire. Violet is a tough vampire who finds herself the protector of a 9-year-old boy, Six targeted for death. Backdrop is a civil war in the late 21st century between humans and a subculture turned into vampires. She can’t act to save her life, but come on, acting’s not important in these kind of films.
08. Lucy Liu in Rise
I haven’t seen Rise, but I heard it sucked. By the looks of the above photo Lucy Liu sucked as well.
07. Angie Everhart in Bordello of Blood
In Bordello of Blood, Angie Everhart, former Sylvester Stallone plaything, gives a not-so biblical performance of the classic character Lilith. This Lilith runs a brothel. Wee!
06. Monica Bellucci in Bram Stoker’s Dracula
Yeah, that’s Monica Bellucci. The one in the middle. One of Dracula’s brides. The other two are a little too scary for my taste.
05. Amanda Donohoe in Lair of the White Worm
Looks as though Amanda, playing the over sexed Lady Sylvia Marsh, is about to give Lord James D’Ampton, played by Hugh Grant, a very bad day. If you haven’t seen Lair of the White Worm it happens to be a favorite of mine. Check it out. British supernatural horror is fun.
04. Kate Beckinsale in the Underworld films
From Wikipedia: “Selene (Kate Beckinsale), is a vampire who is a “Death Dealer”, or Lycan hunter, due to her hatred for the whole species. She finds herself attracted to a human, Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman) who is being targeted by the Lycans (a breed of Werewolves). After Michael is bitten by a Lycan, Selene must decide whether to do her “duty” and kill him or go against her clan and save him.
The storyline kind of stank, but the skin tight PVC outfit looked spectaular.
03. Mathilda May in Lifeforce
Space Girl, played by Mathilda May, wasn’t the average blood sucking vampire but she did walk around completely naked and suck the life force (thus the film’s title) from her oh-so turned on victims. I was 16 when I saw this film. It affected me very deeply then.
02. Aaliyah in Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned
Aaliyah, the late multi-talented temptress who sadly passed away in a plane crash in 2001, was amazingly hot as the title character in the film adaptation of the Anne Rice novel by the same name, Queen of the Damned.
01. Salma Hayek in From Dusk Till Dawn
Wow! Foot fetishist Quentin Tarantino made sure he got to slurp booze from the toes of Santanico Pandemonium (the coolest horror film vixen name ever) in From Dusk Till Dawn in a bar with a nasty name during her ultra-sexy snake dance just before the doors are locked and she turns into the demonic blood sucker she truly is.
Honorable Mention - The Gayest Vampires (not that there’s anything wrong with that)
Tom Cruise bites Brad Pitt in another Anne Rice vampire story, Interview with a Vampire. One for the ladies I guess.
