W. the movie's official film guide

Thursday, October 23, 2008

If you are planning to see Oliver Stone’s W. then hold off on reading the official film guide. If you have then get that index finger ready to click on your mouse because we’ve got the show and tell for you.

W. The Movie - The Official Film Guide compiles 83 story components from Stone’s most recent film, providing the references for what was presented on screen with the hard facts. For instance, if you want to know how Stone and his co-writer came up with their film depiction of Vice President Dick Cheney’s views on oil and how it relates to America, they’ve got a reference to what the VP said. Want to know when he said that he was “the decider”? Here’s the date and reference. And so on and so forth.

The official film guide offers Stone an opportunity to present his evidence for what he put forth in his film. Putting aside issues of politics, having an online component to a film that’s controversial is a great idea. It allows for the filmmaker the opportunity to communicate more information to his audience and back up the ideas they are presenting in the film. I think that in the future we’ll see more examples like this.

Dubya debuts on MovieSet

Friday, August 01, 2008

Oliver Stone is doing a movie about the rise to power of George W. Bush. Those are 15 words that should cause anyone interested at all about film or politics to sit up and take notice, right? And MovieSet has just let loose its pagelet for W., Stone’s biopic about the formative adult years of the 43rd president of the United States.

Stone’s film chronicles the era between Bush’s early adult years when he attended Yale up to the days just before he decided to wage war against Iraq. Naturally, someone as politically explosive as Dubya makes for potentially gripping drama for a movie. This will be the third film that Oliver Stone has made where his primary subject has been an American President (1991’s JFK and 1995’s Nixon being the two others) but W. will also serve to be exceptionally controversial not just because of the man sitting in the director’s chair but because George W. Bush will still be in office when the film is released. W. arrives in theaters on October 17, 2008.

MovieSet’s W. page features the new trailer as well as two brand new stills from the movie showing Josh Brolin as W. Elizabeth Banks (Zack and Miri Make a Porno), Thandie Newton (Beloved), Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws), Scott Glenn (The Right Stuff) and James Cromwell (L.A. Confidential) round out the supporting cast.
