Tim Burton has found his Alice and Mad Hatter; now he has found the two queens needed to populate his 3D Alice in Wonderland film. Surprising absolutely nobody at all is the addition to Helena Bonham Carter to the cast as the Red Queen; she’s been joined at the hip with Burton since 2000’s Planet of the Apes. What’s a little more unexpected is hearing that Anne Hathaway will play Carter’s sister, the White Queen.
Johnny Depp is playing the Mad Hatter and relative newcomer Mia Wasikowska is playing the youthful Alice. Burton’s movie will use motion capture technology to create computer generated characters based on the actor’s performances as well as traditional live action. Walt Disney Pictures wants the movie in theaters on March 5, 2010.
